Hamburg’s Reeperbahn has always provided material films are made of: Sex and Crime and Rock’n Roll – a spicy ground for action thrillers, great dramas but also comedies. The five-part docudrama “Echt Reeperbahn” combines all of it and shows St. Pauli apart from the big shows behind the curtains. From dubious low-lifes, shady “Kiez”-characters, to day-dreamers as well as founders of new businesses and young families: they all live together in an extraordinary village within the city. They allow an inside peak into their daily life and their problems. The Reeperbahn: a rough place with its own street law but still a beloved community in the middle of Hamburg.
